The Top Ten Mistakes are as followed:

  1. Bad Search
    • Search engines should be able to handle typos and prioritize
results based on importance or relevancy
  2. PDF Files for Online Learning
    • PDF files do not allow users to use standard browser commands.
Keep PDF files where they belong and use real web pages.
  3. Not Changing the Colors of Visited Links
    • The color of the links that have been visited should change color to indicate
the site has already been viewed. This helps the user navigate through the site more easily.
  4. Non-Scannable Text
    • Pages of nothing but text can be boring; use subheadings and other tools.
  5. Fixed Font Size
    • Allow the users to resize the text if needed.
  6. Page Titles With Low Search Engine Visibility
    • Help the user find your website by making it visible on search engines.
This means you need to make your titles good.
  7. Anything That Looks Like an Advertisement
    • If it look like a silly ad, users will ignore it.
  8. Violating Design Conventions
    • Be Consistent. Users like to know what they are getting into.
  9. Opening New Browser Windows
    • Don't clutter the user's monitor with all of your screens.
Make it simple for a user to go from page to page.
  10. Not Answering Users' Questions
    • Give the user what they need to know. If they want to know the price, give it to them.

This information will be useful to evaluate my own site. I could relate to many of these
mistakes because I have seen them in websites that I have seen.
